Speaking on Thursday, Republican Senator John Cornyn, who is a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, broke from Committee Chairman Richard Burr, who yesterday attempted to subpoena Donald Trump Jr. regarding the Russian investigation.
“At some point, this is not about finding facts,” said Cornyn, adding, “This smacks of politics, and I think we have an important job to do to try the Intelligence Committee out of politics.”
Cornyn: My understanding is @DonaldJTrumpJr has cooperated extensively with the committee, I can understand his frustration…At some pt this is not about finding facts. “I can understand Mr. Trump’s frustration, now that the Mueller report has gone public, and finding no evidence of collusion,” said Cornyn, adding, “I can understand his frustration at being requested to come back.”
The surprise move on Wednesday drew outrage from Republicans and Trump supporters, who demanded answers from Burr regarding the decision, with some calling for his immediate resignation and action from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
